Congrats on becoming a new parent! Now you have gone through pregnancy, labor, and delivery, and all set to go home and begin a happy life with your baby. Once back, you will start feeling like you have no idea what you are doing with your little one. You wouldn’t know how to handle him/her, what should not be done, and a lot more.
Their fragility may be intimidating, making you one among the most nervous first-time parents. So we have come up with a few essential tips that help you feel confident about handling your newborn in no time.
- Wash your hands with soap or a hand sanitizer before handling your baby. Your baby hasn’t developed a strong immune system at this stage, so they’re at risk of getting an infection quickly. Also, ensure that everyone who handles your newborn has clean hands.
- Support the head and neck of your baby. Cradle the head while you carry your baby and support the head while carrying the baby upright or when laying him/her down.
- Ensure your baby is fastened into the carrier, stroller, or car seat whenever possible. Limit any activity that could result in too rough or bouncy movements.
- Remember that your newborn is not yet ready for rough play, so avoid jiggling or handling him/her without proper care.
Parenting might seem complicated, but once you get used to it, you will start creating happy memories with your newborn. Happy parenting!
